CAKE MAGAZINE WAS FOUNDED IN 2005 AT GRAYS SCHOOL OF ART IN ABERDEEN AS AN ALTERNATIVE PLATFORM FOR EXPERIENCING CONTEMPORARY ART. THE MAGAZINE IS A PORTABLE GALLERY WHICH ALLOWS THE WORK TO BE EXHIBITED IN PEOPLE'S HOMES AND BOOKSHELVES.

EACH ISSUE IS CURATED BY A DIFFERENT ARTIST OR CURATOR ALLOWING EACH ISSUE TO HAVE A FRESH PERSPECTIVE AND VIEW WORK BY A WIDE RANGE OF PRACTITIONERS. 2009 WILL SEE ISSUES BY DEVERON ARTS, THE SCOTTISH SCULPTURE WORKSHOP, MARK BRADY, MARTIN SENYSZAK AND PROJECT SLOGAN AMONG MANY MORE.

IN DECEMBER 2008 CAKE MADE IT'S PRESENCE KNOWN ON T'INTERNET. CAKE ONLINE WILL HOLD AN OVERVIEW OF ARCHIVED ISSUES AS WELL AS PROVIDE A PLATFORM TO ANY INTERNET-RELATED WORK RELATING TO THE CURRENT ISSUE.

    • this is a detail of my scultural piece 'Drag' which is a light/shadow work - it is displayed in a dark area and lit from above to project shadowsof the beetles and deet skull inside the glass box. The shadows make it appear that a giant beetle is in a tug of war with many smaller beetles. I love it that the shape of the roe deer antlers is so similar to the stag beetles antlers. I've just completed a large scale illustration also posted here entitled 'Tug' which shows a life size deer and stag beetle drawn directly onto a large cotton sheet. ,more at www.hatefulsnippets.co.uk
