Gray's School of Art Degree show 2010. Here, looking at family ties, inspired by my collection of black and white photos I learned the craft of knitting with an Aberdeen knitting group. Together, we created 60 knitted wombs which talk of that age of tradition of knitting in anticipation of a new born baby, the passing of genes from one generation to the next and the past informing the future. Along side this were collages, which were the outcome of my coming to an understanding of motherhood and giving birth; a though that both excites and terrifies me. A qoute that I used in the cataloge helps explain my facination with the past and in particular, old black and white photographs. What do they teach us? "It has showen me that everything is illuminated in the light of the past. It is alwasy along the side of us on the inside looking out, like you say, inside out. In this way I will always be along the side of your life, and you mine. We have something to exist for and of course, in case anyone comes searching." Everything is Illuminated.
